Idris Elba, Beasts of No Nation set for Venice Film Festival, TIFF

There is a new movie making wave and which movie enthusiasts and critics are eagerly looking forward to at the 2015 Venice Film Festival. It’s Beasts of Nations.

Many Nigerians who grew up in cosmopolitan parts of the country in the 80’s will be familiar with Beasts of No Nations by Afrobeat legend Fela Anikulapo Kuti. Fast forward to  2005, Uzodinma Iweala, a Nigerian author, released his first novel titled after the album. Uzodinma is also the son of Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, Nigeria’s former minister for finance.

Beasts of No Nations movie adaptation was filmed in Ghana and directed by Cary Fukunaga (True Detective and Jane Eyre) with a budget of $6million funded by Netflix. Th movie will also be screened at Telluride and Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) before it premieres on Netflix on October 16.
