Nigerian lawmakers clash over the appointment of principal officers

There are reports of disruption of plenary session of Nigeria’s House of Representatives. According to the Nigeria Television Authority, junior national lawmakers engage each other in fist-fighting after disagreement over the selection of principal officers that will be responsible for overseeing some legislative activities.

Meanwhile, the North East and North West Senate caucus of the APC has nominated Muhammad Ali Ndume as majority leader and Bala Na’allah as deputy majority leader. This is against the appeal of the party’s national chairman, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, who had recommended Ahmed Lawan as Majority Leader and  George Akume as Deputy Majority Leader.
